Deadly Kin is my first book by this author, and possibly my last, as I found the pace cumbersome, with some of the characterization cardboardish. Premise follows Will Buchanan, a teacher, scout, and sometime amateur sleuth, helping his friend, or should I say, ex-girlfriend, Sheriff Laurie Eberly, by taking her niece, Erin, to a ski resort to meet her step-brother, Josh. What follows is somewhat predictable. Will happens to see Erin and Josh making out, not the usual step-brother -- step-sister hugging. The next morning, Josh is found dead, having supposedly fallen down a ledge of the falls. Then Will is accused of having sex with Erin, though, that turns out to be a lie on Erin's part. As the pieces fall together, all three are thrown into a fight for survival, having to brave the New Hampshire fall temperatures. What kept me reading were the descriptions of New Hampshire, wanting to prove that I knew who the killer was, way before Will and Laurie figured it, and to see what happens to Erin, if anything. I might try another one by this author, but I won't go out of my way to buy one by this author.
