THE GUNSLINGER is the story of Roland, the last gunslinger and knight adventurer of a world thatıs ³moved on.² His quest is to follow and bring The Man in Black to account for his evil deeds. As his world continues to dry up and mutate, Roland believes that the Man in Black knows the secrets of the Dark Tower, a mythical place that has something to do with the hardships that have plagued his dying world.

As Roland travels across the great desert wasteland of his world, we learn more about him, his code of life, and his friends, past and present, and his enemies.

If youıre one of the few people who didnıt read THE GUNSLINGER when it was first released more than a decade ago, then youıre in for a marvelous journey with this book. Although itıs not easy going, some places are difficult to understand, rest assured, Stephen King has created a universe filled with remarkable and ill-omened places that will take you in and bring you along on an amazing excursion. Itıs an alternative world to the one we know, yet these worlds seem to run concurrently, sharing ideas and ways of life sort of.

I wonıt spell out more of an outline for the plot of this book, because the bare bones of the story simply wonıt do it justice.

These cassette tapes, narrated by George Guidall, will astonish and immerse you in the strangeness of the time and place and engross you in the many and extraordinary characters who live and survive in that horrifically changing world. Mr. Guidall has narrated over 540 unabridged audio books and has the knowledge and talent to perform this mind-boggling story. I warn you though, donıt listen to these tapes while driving, youıll forget where you are and what youıre doing and the result might be dire. Listen to this novel when you can let yourself concentrate on it fully.

I have to say that the most chilling moment I found with this recording was when I realized that there was only one single cassette remaining to be listened to my regret that there werenıt more tapes ahead of me was overwhelming.

Youıll not only finish this first book but you'll find yourself yearning for more and searching for the next installment. The craving to live through all of the series will overtake you.

I give THE GUNSLINGER, THE DARK TOWER 1, my highest recommendation. Itıs outstanding!
