Samantha Wilson is married to an immoral man. Not only that, but she is being stalked by a dead lover from her past. With her sanity and her life threatened, she enlists the help of her doctor, only to find that they are passionately in love with each other. Will she be able to survive? I thought BOOMERANG’ had an interesting premise, but from the moment I started, it went downhill. One of the main things that annoyed me about the book was the use of the French language, since the book is set in Quebec. The problem was not the use of French per se, but the fact that the language was incorrect and it was clear that the author had not verified the wording. This is not confusion with Québécois, where the language is somewhat different, but easily noticeable, simple grammatical errors. In addition, the behaviour of the main character, Sam, did not ring true. She seemed obsessed by her swans and her children, and even when faced with the facts – that it was impossible for her dead lover to be telephoning her - she did not comprehend this. Her unflinching faith in her husband was also unbelievable when the evidence against him was so great. For me, BOOMERANG’ had potential and could have been an exciting novel, yet still well within the bounds of being a cozy. Instead, it is a lacklustre novel that could easily have been tightened by better editing or proof reading. BOOMERANG’ seems to have slipped through the net and for Lue Christian, who clearly has the ability to do better, it must be disappointing.
