Cassie Sales lives a good life. Her husband, Mitch, owns a wine distribution company and makes great money. Mitch and Cassie have two grown children. Daughter, Marsha, who is going to school to become a social worker and son Teddy, who is working as an accountant and will be taking the CPA test soon. They live in a small modest and tasteful house which is surrounded by a beautiful garden which Cassie faithfully tends everyday.

Mitch and Cassie have been married for 26 years and Cassie just turned 50. Even though 50 is far from old, she feels ancient because Mitch isnıt paying much attention to her anymore. Heıs away on business in Europe all the time and they havenıt had sex in years.

While Mitch is away in Italy, Cassie decides to have a facelift. No one knew about the surgery except for her daughter who promised to help Cassie while she recuperated.

The surgery was far from fun. Cassie had a lot done and she looked terrible after the operation, what with all of the stitches and her horribly black and blue marked face. She had hoped to be completely healed by the time Mitch came home but to her horror he returned early. Mitch walked into their bedroom, took one look at Cassieıs face and suffered a massive stroke which left him in the hospital, brain dead, and breathing with the help of a respirator.

Because of his condition, Cassie had to search to see if Mitch had a living will but, to her dismay, she discovered some other things about her husband and their life together. Mitch had been having an affair for the last few years and was about to divorce Cassie. Mitchıs wine distribution company was about to be audited yet again. And Cassie also found out that someone using her name had acquired many credit cards and had charged hundreds of thousand of dollars on them.

OVER HIS DEAD BODY is the story of revenge. Revenge against a man who has lied to his wife of 26 years and was about to leave her deep in debt while he ran off with a younger woman.

Even though there were a few light moment in the book, on the whole I didnıt care for it. Author, Leslie Glass, taking a break from her popular April Woo series, introduces us to some of the meanest and most distasteful characters Iıve seen in quite a while.

Mitch doesnıt care about anyone but himself. Mona, his girlfriend, is out to get Cassieıs life and will hurt anyone who gets in her way. Mitchıs best friends also his doctor, lawyer, and accountant know all about his infidelity and when Cassie asks them for help they give her the big run-around.

Then there are the children Marsha and Teddy. Having full knowledge of their fatherıs deceit, they treat Cassie like a child. They yell at her, demean her, tell her what to do, and try to run her life.

And at the apex of this story, there is Cassie. I guess youıre supposed to feel sorry for this wife and mother because everyone seems to be ganging up against her, but as I read the book, all I felt was anger at her. Cassie permitted her husband to take care of her for all of their married life. Until the accident happened she was content to know nothing about the family finances. She just stayed in her garden all day, puttered around the house, and lived the good life

The characters in this novel, each and every one, thinks that the only way a woman could ever hope to be thought of as successful, was to be beautiful. At the start of OVER HIS DEAD BODY, Cassie was a size 6 and was considered dumpy. It was only after she lost weight because she couldnıt eat after the surgery, did people finally start to take notice of her. The author made sure we knew that Cassieıs size 6 clothes were now too big for her. Only when she became a size 0 did Cassie make the grade.

Cassie herself made nasty remarks about her sonıs overweight girlfriend and her own aunt who was heavy. Her cruel remarks made me completely lose any sympathy I might have felt towards her. It proved that she was no better than her ruthless husband Mitch or his selfish, avaricious girlfriend, Mona.

Incredibly enough, the only character I had any positive feelings for was the IRS Agent, Charles Schwab.

If you like so called ³womenıs books² then youıll probably enjoy OVER HIS DEAD BODY. But if you prefer a well written story, filled with nicely thought-out characters possessing any modicum of a value system, Iıd steer clear of this book like the plague.
