Just how far is the United States Government involved with bio terrorism? Is the government really working on different types of diseases that could be used in a wartime situation? Carl Greene knew the answers to these questions because he worked for Bio Tech, a company secretly financed by the US Government that does testing in this field. The problem is that the people who work for Bio Tech are being exposed to some of the biological agents that are being tested within its high security walls. The result is that their children are being born with encephalocele and usually die right after birth. This happened to Carl and Lucy Greene's newborn baby too.

Carl decided that he was going to go public with this information and called his old friend, Kevin Burns, an ex television journalist for MSNBC, with this story. They both realized that a scoop of this magnitude would get Kevin's career back on track. Kevin and Carl made plans to meet but Carl was killed in an automobile accident before he could tell Kevin what was going on.

Lucy Greene isn't at all sure that her husband's death was due to an accident. She knows that Carl was too good a driver. When she chases a prowler from her home on the day of Carl's funereal, and she discovers that the intruder was searching through Carl's business papers, she becomes positive that he was murdered.

Carl's boss is also a little too anxious to get to these papers. He and another business associate enters Lucy's home and they appropriate all the file cabinets with Carl's notes.

Just to add more confusion to the matter, the warden of the nearby prison is also interested in Carl's studies and sends ex con Darcy Williams to steal the files. Darcy, Lucy, and Kevin end up working together to find out the truth about Carl's death and what is really going on at Bio Tech.

SHOT is a wonderfully fast paced book. Author Jenny Siler creates some marvelous characters and situations. This novel makes you think of what might possibly be going on behind the closed doors of biological research centers - especially considering everything that is happening in today's world..

The characters are likeable, there is plenty of fast moving action and these factors come together to make a sound and very readable book.

I've always liked Jenny Siler's work and SHOT didn't disappoint me for one moment.

SHOT is a definite must read!
