Former FBI agent Jack Davis was forced to retire from the force due to health issues, but that does not stop him from trying to help people in any way he can. He starts as an inadvertent spectator while at a restaurant when a man shoots his wife in cold blood. Her friend, also at the table, manages to protect herself by shooting the man before he manages to kill her. During the investigation there are some irregularities that need to be sorted out that affect Roni Chase, the woman who defended herself. Davis has always had an inordinate need to help people and this is no different. He'll just realize that there is more to the story than he has yet to know, and he will need to see how to proceed.

Other than the restaurant incident, Jack is helping on an investigation involving missing children. He also has a run-in with a street gang and there is a search involving some missing guns.

NO WAY OUT is another book in a series that features Jack Davis who provides the story with a unique perspective. His books are generally enjoyable and he is able to catch the reader's interest early on. The author does not rely heavily on Jack's health issues in order to tell a good story. Admittedly, his health problems do help him stand out and explain why he is who he is and why he does what he does. He's a likeable character and a strong element in the book.
