One thing to mention straight off the bat - John Gilstrap knows how to write a good action thriller and his latest novel is no exception. NO MERCY introduces readers to Jonathan Grave, a mysterious individual with unlimited resources who acts as a troubleshooter, one not hindered by procedures or red tape. He does not do things by the book, because he does not care to ever read it. He is the person people go to, if they can afford him, to help find their kidnapped loved ones when the police can't help. He is quick, he is thorough, and he knows how not to leave any evidence behind. That is, until now.

Things went wrong when he rescued Thomas Hughes, a college student, from kidnappers intent on making an example of him. For Grave, it was all straightforward until he was forced to improvise. He thought that after rescuing the kid, and explaining to him what to do next, it would all be over. However, Grave is being pursued by a dogged town sheriff who does not believe in bending the rules even if it is being done for the right reasons. He discovers that there is more to the story regarding Thomas Hughes' kidnapping, something involving people close to him, and a conspiracy to keep the truth to from coming out.

NO MERCY is the first book of an upcoming series featuring Grave and his friends taking the law into their own hands while staying always two steps ahead of it. It is entertaining, fun, and hard to easily put down. You will want to read it in a single sitting as Gilstrap engages readers in the novel's absorbing plot. I'm looking forward to the next book of the series.
