QUEEN OF THE FLOWERS is the fourteenth in the series to feature Phryne Fisher and in this latest installment Phryne has been elected queen of her local flower festival but has her work cut out looking after her flower maidens. When one of them goes missing (but was last seen in the company of a rather questionable older man) Phryne decides to see if she can rescue the young girl. As she does, elements of the young girl's life comes to her attention which make her all the more determined to find the young girl before it is too late.

Whilst undertaking this task she also finds herself looking for adopted daughter Ruth who has also gone missing as she is on the hunt for true father after being given some information about him by her natural mother. Friends and lovers past and present all have their parts to play and even with the re-appearance of an old lover to distract her, Phryne still manages to resolve matters as one would expect her to.

A number of things happen in QUEEN OF THE FLOWERS which bring this series forward. The story not only evolves a number of secondary characters but the author has not presumed that all readers have read the earlier books. Kerry Greenwood always provides a good read and in Phryne Fisher we are treated to the witticisms of a 1920s amateur Aussie sleuth along with the historical insights into what was happening during that period. Phryne has always been a woman ahead of her time, indifferent to what society may think of her and this is one of the reasons why the series is so enchanting and endearing.

This series has always been an enjoyable read but this is not in my opinion the best of the lot. It is still worth reading however, and watching how Phryne manages to unravel what has happened is one of the good things about QUEEN OF THE FLOWERS and this series in general. You don't have to be a long-time reader to enjoy it.
