Jenny T Partridge loves what she does most of the time. Teaching dance to small children does have some downsides: psycho moms, minimal income, psycho moms, lots of hard work, psycho moms. So when Jenny is offered the chance to work on a nationally known dance competition, she jumps at the chance. She’ll be making a chunk of money, and dealing with a different set of psycho moms – moms who won’t be around in a few weeks. What could go wrong? Silly question.

Apparently quite a bit. The man in charge of the competitions disappears. People get killed. The wife of the man in charge blames Jenny for all the problems. Jenny’s car is blown up. The only positive thing Jenny can see is that Detective Tate Wilson is back in her life.

Jenny meets some interesting people in this adventure. There's the Samoan missionary Sal Tuatuola who yearns to dance instead of convert – I hope he’s going to be around for a while. Jenny still has some problems with James, her assistant (the gay man who won’t tell his mother and uses Jenny to hide behind), although he’s not as annoying in TAPPED OUT as he was in TUTU DEADLY. Her relationship with Tate progresses, which complicates her life. Jenny’s mother and father must be candidates for sainthood, based on the little we know of them.

TAPPED OUT is the second in the Jenny T Partridge series. Roberts writes a good cozy mystery with interesting characters, almost believable plots, and a good feel for setting. I hope this blowing up the car thing doesn’t turn into a habit, but if Jenny were to achieve the following that Stephanie Plum has . . . I could put up with it.
