Well-known society gal Andy Kendricks drives her childhood friend and now news anchor Miranda DuBois home after she tries to kill the doctor, Dr Sonja Madhavi, who has ruined her face with poorly-placed Botox injections.

The near shooting happened at a fashionable 'Pretty Party' where women who spend most of their time trying to be attractive go to parties where the newest beauty hawkers of the day give away free samples of their products. By doing this they get more women to buy in on their latest and usually expensive beauty breakthroughs.

But the new beauty tricks don't always work, as Miranda finds out. After Dr Sonja shot her face up with Botox, her eye won't stop winking and her mouth is permanently drawn down in a sneer. Miranda has always been very pretty and has relied on that fact to keep her chair as the local news anchor. Now her face has been ruined she wants to take her anger out at Dr Sonja.

After her bad aim leaves Dr Sonja shaken but healthy, Andy sweeps Miranda away and drives her home. She makes sure the house is all locked up and secure, and leaves the very drunk and unconscious Miranda on the couch to sleep it off. After all, Andy has her boyfriend waiting for her at home and she and Miranda haven't been close friends since they were kids.

The next morning Andy goes to look in on Miranda but finds the police at her home. Miranda has been found dead. The police think it's suicide, but Andy thinks that the police are not paying enough attention to things and she is certain that Miranda wasn't a person who would do anything harmful to herself.

Andy wants to prove that Miranda didn't commit suicide and vows to find the real killer – that is if she can find the time after helping Janet, her reporter friend, get a 'real' news item. The item has to do with the Caviar Club, a secretive exclusive group of people that sent Miranda a "see you later" note and that seems to have high society members doing very low things to each other. Andy even undergoes a makeover in order to get into the club to see what's what and who's doing what to whom.

TOO PRETTY TO DIE is more a story about a social butterfly who insists she's not; whose infamous mother is the usual attention-grabbing, rich, height of society woman. There's a lot of talk about the murder and about finding the truth in this book, but most of the time is spent in getting ready to be seen. If rich women who care more about looks than what's inside makes your day than TOO PRETTY TO DIE is just right for you.
