Magdalena Yoder is the richest woman in Hernia, Pennsylvania, because she owns an inn with very exclusive clientele. She also investigates all the murders that happen in this small town.

The latest murder is that of lady's man, handsome Cornelius Weaver. Any one of many women could have done the deed. He was due to marry Priscilla Livengood in three days but Cornelius died – while he was with another woman.

Have no fear though, Magdalena is on the case trying to figure out which of Cornelius's many lovers could have killed him. She questions and investigates them all until the true murderess is unveiled.

HELL HATH NO CURRY by author Tamar Myers is the 15th installment of the Magdalena Yoder series and I think it would be best if this were to be the last. Where are the good-humored jokes? Magdalena's quips used to be amusing and cute, now they are old and stale. I was able to predict what Magdalena would say and when she would say it. Each joke and sly remark was already in almost all of the other 14 books.

Hearing Magdalena wailing all the time is getting tiring, and if I read that her favorite exercise is "jumping to conclusions" one more time I will fall over in a bored coma. The characters in Hernia are getting stale as well. Her elderly cousin, who is also the cook at the inn, is forever getting flour on her eyeglasses and calling everyone Englishmen. Magdalena's sister is still walking around with a dog in her bra but to Meyers' credit, the sister never made an appearance in this book, she was just spoken about.

The residents of Hernia, especially the women, still don't like Magdalena and are annoyed with her bullying. Her Jewish soon to be mother-in-law is still attempting to get her son, Dr Gabriel Rosen, to end his engagement to the Amish-Mennonite Magdalena. This wedding has been threatening to happen for what seems like a century.

Seen it, read it, heard it all at least ten times already. I used to love this series, but if you're a newcomer, it's worth reading the earlier books. But for those who are fans of Magdalena, except for some of the recipes, there's nothing new or worthwhile in HELL HATH NO CURRY.
