Big-time American industrialist 'Big' Jake Rynerson is in Macau overseeing the final details of the troubled construction of a hotel and casino near the Pearl River Delta. The project has been plagued by worker 'accidents', among other things, and needs to be completed within a month’s time or everything is about to be lost.

The opening of the Pacific Pearl is meant to coincide with the signing of a top-secret trade alliance between China, Taiwan, and the United States – something that, until now, was never thought even conceivable but everything is now coming to place. The Pacific Rim Alliance will be big news all around the world.

But there are some special interest forces that want to prevent this from happening. The final piece of the deal is the Crest of Ch’in, a priceless artifact, important to the Chinese Culture. Each one of the alliance members has a separate piece of the Crest; once all three pieces are combined the alliance will be sealed.

Simon Leonidovich is, for lack of a better work, a transporter. He can deliver anything anywhere around the world. He is a courier who has had his own share of adventures and this one is no different. It is his job to pick up each of the separate pieces from the respective governments and bring them to the signing.

As you have probably figured out by now, this is not meant to be a simple job; it is about to turn out to be quite dangerous. However, Leonidovich is not a man who fools around when it comes to his mission and he is constantly using his wits and skills to resolve matters. He hates using guns, but he has managed to survive time and time again. In this book, it is no different.

CHOKE POINT has something for all adrenaline junkies looking for a good action adventure-type novel. It has chases and double-crosses as well as a showdown on a deserted Chinese island. Overall, it was an entertaining book but I felt that it needed a little bit more filler when it comes to the story. I felt that the alliance situation was a bit oversimplified and I would have liked to see more. Regardless, it is still a good book. I guess I am just asking for a little bit more, that’s all.
