The latest edition to the 'In Death' series is BORN IN DEATH. We've been waiting with bated breath for the birth of Mavis’s child. The fact that both Eve Dallas and husband Roarke are supposed to be part of the birthing team is also having a disquieting effect on the normally stalwart couple.

Whilst trying to organise a baby shower for her friend Eve finds herself investigating a double murder. Who would have wanted to kill Natalie Copperfield and Bic Bryson? They both worked for accountants Sloan, Myers, and Kraus. As Eve digs deeper, she begins to wonder if the two deaths are related.

As well as trying to solve a brutal double homicide Eve finds herself pulled further into the goings-on surrounding Mavis’s pregnancy when a friend goes missing and she is pressurised to investigate. It is not hard to see why Eve feels the way she does when on top of everything else the department is questioning both her and Roarke. They believe that any information that Roarke may come across will be used by him for his own personal gain. Trying to navigate and deal with everything that is going on her around her does not deter Eve from being at the birth of her best friend's baby no matter how unwilling she might be.

BORN IN DEATH is slightly different from the other books in the series. There is more of relationship angle in this novel compared to some of the others. Watching Eve deal with her discomfort over childbirth and the baby shower that she organises and is delightful, as is Roarke looking and behaving nonplussed – something that does not happen very often. Even with the redoubtable Peabody in tow, Eve finds herself dealing with baby stealing, tax evasion and murder.

BORN IN DEATH is a welcome addition to the series and once again, I have been able to assuage my craving with an enjoyable read. There are not many authors that can compete with Nora Roberts when it comes to productivity, even in her guise as JD Robb. She has once again pulled off another exciting read in her futuristic police procedural series.
