Emerald O'Brien's life is good. After years of struggling following a bitter divorce, raising her children and setting up her Chintz 'n China tea shop and becoming more comfortable with her spiritual gifts, she is now going to get married. Her intended is Joe, a captain of the local Emergency Medical Team crew. He's handsome, he understands her special gifts and he's ten years younger than she is. The wedding will take place on the solstice.

When her emotionally distant sister Rose gives Em a beautiful crystal necklace as a wedding gift, Em feels something off with its aura, but as it is so beautiful and since Rose gave it to her, she decides to wear it.

Soon things start to go wrong. Her drunken ex-husband shows up uninvited to her wedding party and starts a brawl. Then Joe is shot at and wounded and no one knows who could have done it. She doesn't think it could it be her ex going out for revenge, and when she finds out that her best friend Anna Murray, a cop, is being stalked by a dangerous madman, Emerald then sees that she must set aside her wedding jitters to use her spiritual powers to discover what evil is touching her friends and family.

In this latest Chintz 'n China installment, Emerald is once again on the lookout for spirits doing mischief, but in this story most of the menacing come from an all too real and earthly person doing their worst.

As with the others in this series, the location and the people make this a delight to read. Emerald and her friends and family (alive and passed on) all care deeply about each other.

Author Yasmine Galenorn has created a wonderfully down-to-earth spiritual person in Emerald. Her outlook, though dealing with spirits and ghosts, on occasion, is one of a well-balanced middle class woman who would fit in with any company. Galenorn also has a fine knack for creating scenes of mounting tension. Even when you see it coming, your heartbeat can't help but race as you turn the pages.

ONE HEX OF A WEDDING is a marvelous addition to the Chintz 'n China series. I can't wait to read the next book.
