Bay Tanner is a PI in her hometown of Hilton Head, SC. As a favor to her deceased mother's oldest friend, wealthy Miss Addie, she has been looking for the woman's long-lost brother, Win. Suddenly, there's news that Win is on his way to see his sister. Bay can't help but feel that a man who made such a point of staying under everyone's radar for so long, isn't up to any good by suddenly showing up unannounced. She and her assistant, Erik will keep an eye on him.

At the same time a new client, a female escort, wants Bay and company to find the whereabouts of a man who raped her as well as another escort. The client doesn't think the police will help someone like her since she took money to keep the incident quiet.

Before long a badly-beaten body of a male fitting the rapist's description is discovered on the beach. The police are all too easily happy to identify the corpse from a wallet they also found on the beach, but Bay has a feeling that the body is not who the police thinks it is.

Meanwhile, Ben Wyler, the agency's ex-cop silent partner, is suddenly always on hand to help work their cases. At first Bay is more than annoyed, but soon Ben shows that he's a big asset to the company. And to her complete surprise, he's also growing on Bay.

In this series, the location is almost another character in the story. Writer Kathryn R Wall uses the look and the history of the South to influence the story. She does it well.

Bay Tanner is not at a silly humorous female PI; she's serious and businesslike in her job and isn't likely to leave any question unanswered.

This is the sixth in the series and BISHOP'S REACH is a great addition, but it also stands well on its own. There are plenty of references to previous occurrences in Bay's life, but that only adds to enjoyment of this story. It will also make you want to read the rest of the series.

A solid and serious mystery, BISHOP'S REACH is fine reading.
