Kelly Flynn is ecstatic for her friend, Allison Dubois. Allison has been singled out by famous fashion designer Sophia Emeraud to come to New York and work in her studio. Kelly and fellow knitter Megan are taking Allison to the airport for the final leg of her journey to a new life. However, when Megan goes to Allison's apartment to collect her, she finds her dead.

Her death being ruled a suicide makes no sense to Kelly. Allison had everything to live for and was on the brink of realizing her dreams. While Kelly begins probing about Allison's death, she must also deal with what may be new-found wealth. Her cousin, whom she barely knew and who was murdered, has left her a house and land in Wyoming, land which may be rich in mineral and natural gas deposits.

Kelly does not lack for suspects for the killing. Allison's friend and neighbor, Diane Linstrom, who keeps unusual hours, heard people going into and coming out of Allison's apartment. One was her reprehensible druggie boyfriend, Ray Baker, who Allison threw out. Another is Kimberley Gorman, a fellow artist, jealous of Allison's success and with whom Allison had a very public altercation the night before the murder. A final suspect is Brian Silverstone, exiled from the New York art scene and now in Colorado, trying to make a comeback. He insists that he was Allison's mentor and that she used his ideas, when the truth is that he stole from her with impunity.

The characters are cleverly crafted, the cadre of knitters being especially vivid, with special note of retired police officer, Burt, who has become an expert spinner. Sefton does a fine job of integrating Kelly's sleuthing with visits with her friends at Lambspun shop, and her need to make decisions about her Wyoming property.

A few negatives: 1) Someone should have given Ms Sefton a thesaurus where she could find synonyms for the word 'tease,' and thus reduced its use by about 70 per cent. I counted it three times on one page. 2) Why is Kelly behaving like a junior high school girl about her relationship with Steve? She refuses to acknowledge it, even though everyone knows about it. 3) Her dog, Carl, is utterly repulsive. I have no patience in real life or fiction for untrained canines.
