LOCKED DOORS is the sequel to the story begun in DESERT PLACES. Andrew Thomas, famous mystery writer and framed killer, has finally found a place where he feels safe. He has been hiding out for the last seven years as he was framed for several deranged killings that were committed by his brother.

Just as he begins to settle in, an aspiring author identifies him and tries to interview him. Thomas is not interested in getting his story out nor is he interested in the author. He has much larger concerns, as he has discovered that several people from his former life have recently been murdered. Thomas thought that all of this was behind him, but he now must return to civilization to protect those he once loved.

This puts him in contact with a young detective, Violet King. She wants to solve these murders and bring justice to their families. Thomas is the most likely suspect even though King has no idea where to find him. In order to find justice for these recent victims, Thomas must work outside of the law and hope to find peace for everyone.

LOCKED DOORS is a very dark thriller. The plot is tight, the actions of the characters move the story forward and the characters are developed. Every character has his or her own agenda and these agendas drive the narrative. Thomas must search for a man he believes dead in order to stop the madness around him.

Luther Kite, said madman, is attempting to get revenge for Thomas' brother's death. Violet King wants to stop a murderer and have a child with her husband. Kite's latest kidnapped victim hopes only to make it through the situation alive. While there is the possibility that some of these characters' hopes will come true, the majority of them will face disappointment and death.

It is possible to read LOCKED DOORS without having read DESERT PLACES. Obviously a lot happens in DESERT PLACES, such as the murders Thomas is framed for, as well as his hunt for his brother and his escape. Yet the details of everything that happened are not necessary to understand the plot of LOCKED DOORS. Yes, some of this information would make the plot more meaningful but the author does a good job of giving enough background so that the present actions make sense.
