Cally Lazar is what people would call a medical sensitive -- she can somehow see people's auras and as a result is able to narrow down where an injury or illness is within the body and cure whatever is wrong by the use of massage and energy therapies. Cally and her friends are all involved in this alternative lifestyle and New Age techniques.

In FINAL INTUITION, one would hope that Thanksgiving would be a peaceful time. However, Cally's holiday ends badly when her ill aunt is poisoned during dinner and it is up to her to track down the killer with the help of her family.

One of the few redeeming features in this book is the fact that the author does the sensible thing and provides a cast of characters at the start of the book. There are in fact too many characters for such a small novel and some of them appear very fleetingly and in fact are a bit of a distraction. The few interesting characters include Kapp, a retired criminal defence attorney who is still as sharp and sarcastic as when he appeared in court, the smart but sullen local police chief, and the sassy waitress Dulcie.

FINAL INTUITION is the fourth and final book in the series to feature Cally Lazar and there is no better way to describe this novel than as a gentle and somewhat droll send-up of the whole New Age culture and its effects on those who inhabit that world.

The writing is done in a somewhat breezy manner, which is not too heavy. In fact, this novel is if anything frothy and light to the extent that it is rather irritating and tiresome. If you read it with a sense of disbelief then you will not be disappointed. Regardless of the fact that it is labelled a 'Karma Crime Mystery' there is hardly any mystery whatsoever and if that is what you are looking for then be prepared to be disappointed.

Author Claire Daniels is actually Jaqueline Girdner, who writes the Kate Jasper mystery series under her own name. Those are much better books in my opinion.
