America is attempting to help Great Britain in their war against Germany and the Nazi party. The American public is unwilling to go to war and is not supportive of President Franklin D Roosevelt's current amount of aid. They believe the money can be better spent inside the country. But Roosevelt believes that America will have to join the war regardless of its current wishes.

Roosevelt and Winston Churchill have set up a secret meeting in which to discuss the level of aid and the future. The Germans hear of these plans and vow to stop the meeting. This is the ideal time for them to use their secret weapon -- the Sea Lion.

The Sea Lion is a juggernaut better built and designed than any seen before. Luckily for the Allies, they have talented and able seamen to support them. Captain George Hardy, captain of the HMS Firedancer must protect the Allies and prevent the death of two world leaders.

As one would imagine, BETWEEN THE HUNTERS AND THE HUNTED is a World War II adventure thriller. While there is a bit of on-land fighting, the majority of this book deals with the practicalities of sea battle; the pros and cons, which are associated with this, and the opinions of those in this type of battle. This book also demonstrates that tactics and quick thinking are vital in a sea battle.

In addition to the violence of war, BETWEEN THE HUNTERS AND THE HUNTED deals with the more human side of war. This book contains commanding officers checking up on their men at hospitals as well as worrying about them on dangerous missions. This book shows the way relationships are distorted but are also more meaningful with the threat of loss and death. Admittedly the emotional side of war is not explored in-depth, but it does explain characters' actions and provides a backdrop for the plot.

All fans of war-based novels and sea Battles should rejoice in Steven Wilson's BETWEEN THE HUNTERS AND THE HUNTED.
