Food writer, Carolyn Blue, is delighted with a surprise Mother's Day Cruise to the Canary Islands arranged by her grown children. It's on the Bountiful Feast, a cruise ship known for its gourmet food preparation. It's Carolyn's idea of heaven.

But when her husband Jason says he's too busy to go and invites his cantankerous mother to be Carolyn's companion, things go bad fast, especially as Carolyn already asked a friend to go with her. But as the trip is a complimentary one given to her by the cruise ship company in return for Carolyn's writing about it, and they gave her a suite with two rooms, Carolyn still has hopes that the cruise will be a grand experience.

When a very annoying passenger soon turns up missing, Carolyn is the first person to notice and worry. As is her way she becomes obsessed as to what happened and investigates.

Unknown to all, there's a conspiracy afoot led by four crew members to hijack the boat and hold the people for a 50 million dollar ransom.

Unfortunately, Carolyn's inquisitiveness gets to be an annoyance to the secret mutineers. When the hijackers urge the workers go on strike forcing the passengers to take care of themselves and eat canned foods, Carolyn is beside herself with frustration!

Will Carolyn get to the truth before the mutineers have to stop her? Will her traveling companions ever get along? And most importantly to Carolyn, will the food again become wonderful?

BON BON VOYAGE by Nancy Fairbanks is the latest in the Carolyn Blue series and it's as much fun as the others. Interestingly, Carolyn is written mainly as a nice upper middle class woman and not an adventurer. She isn't a hero but more of a stubborn snoop who has strong feelings on the proper way to do things. She's a bit spoiled by her husband and good life and that makes her a refreshing heroine. She's a realistic creation, not a super sleuth.

Each chapter is written from a different character's point of view so the reader gets to see different takes on the action. It's a bit choppy at times, but once you're used to it, it makes for a simplified fast paced read.

And as usual in a Carolyn Blue book, there are lovely recipes and short food histories to enjoy. BON BON VOYAGE is a fun cozy and the reader will enjoy this cruise.
