William Christie's THREAT LEVEL is just one of dozens of post-September 11 novels involving the United States' never-ending struggle in the fight against terrorism. Novels involving terrorism attacks continue to reproduce like the heads of the Hydra and rarely are we given something new.

The author's extensive military background may give the story a sense of realism when it comes to talking about ordinance or just plain technospeak, but when it comes to storytelling towards civilians, that's a whole different dimension.

After having finished the first third of this 320-page novel, I still had no idea in what direction the story was going. There are too many things happening at once and the author takes too much time tying it all together. Readers are introduced to Master Sergeant Ed Storey who is leading a group of commandos and Philippine soldiers against a group of terrorist situated in that island nation.

Everything goes by the numbers until a plot is uncovered that threatens the security of the United States. It will be up to Storey and his men to get to the bottom of things by traveling all over the world in a maze of lies and deceit until they find trouble where they least expect it and only they can stop it.

The other player in this war against terrorism is Beth Royale, a no-nonsense Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation who has her own reasons for stopping this terrorism scourge from infecting the United States. She and Storey will combine forces to stop a terrorist attack aimed at the President of the United States.

Unfortunately, THREAT LEVEL is too predictable as well as a dime a dozen. For such a short novel it took too long to get to the point. I spent too much time trying to catch up with events in this book.
