Abigail Timberlake Washburn purchases a special birdcage at an auction. With this cage, she procures Monet, a real mynah bird. Monet begins to chatter all the time and has quite a vocabulary. Much to Abigail's surprise, the customers in her antique shop love to listen to him. It turns out that Monet is good for business.

Then there is Mozella, Abigail's mother. Mozella is a certifiable maniac. She decides to attend an exclusive ball that is by invitation only. A scheme is forthcoming as to how she will accomplish this feat. It is not too long before both Monet and Mozella are missing. A phone call demands an exchange for the return.

Even though kidnapping is serious business, humorous antics abound. Be assured that you will meet a multitude of zany characters. One of these characters is CJ, the assistant to Abigail. CJ is 24 years old, half the age of her boss, and a woman who is willing to try anything and does. There is a reason that CJ stand for Calamity Jane. She is nearly family to Abby and certainly one of her best friends. The best friend issue is one that the author successfully and humorously tackles. As you may already detect, Abby has several number one very best friends.

Abby and her cohorts sleuth. They try to figure out what the bad guys want. As Abby reviews who may want the birdcage, she is mostly glad to have her two pals, Rob and Bob, assist her. They are quite a team. They provide a campy presence but more importantly give a solid friendship to Abby. They even maintain this relationship when Abby proceeds to belly dance.

MONET TALKS is a fun, quick read, the eighth in the series. The strength lies in the author's presentation of her characters and in the meantime, you will be reading this with a backdrop of Charleston, South Carolina. The author also writes the Magdelena Yoder series.
