Chaz Perrone was not a man known for making the wisest decisions. The worst of them all was when he celebrated his second anniversary by throwing his wife over the rail of their cruise ship. By giving the police the wrong time of disappearance, he figured that they would search too close to land and never find the body.

Instead, they didn't find the body because she didn't die. Joey was an expert swimmer, and found a life raft in the unlikely form of a floating bale of marijuana. Clinging desperately to the pot, she was swept to the private island of Mick Stranahan. Afraid that no one would believe her and furious at Chaz, Joey talks Mick out of calling the police in favor of having his help in getting an explanation -- and then getting revenge.

The murder that Chaz thought would solve all his problems only puts him in the center of the storm. Joey's plan to gaslight him is working perfectly, making him start to doubt his sanity. The detective assigned to his case doesn't believe his story or his shallowness. And his real boss, the very rich and dangerous man who hired Chaz to make problems go away and not draw legal or media attention, is very unhappy with the way things are starting to go.

SKINNY DIP is a giddy caper novel in the vein of The Sting and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. If some of the circumstances are a tad unbelievable, the story is so much bubbling fun that it's easy to suspend disbelief. Any woman who has ever felt that her man done her wrong will be firmly on Joey's side.

But the allure of the novel doesn't just lie in female revenge fantasies. The cheerfully venial plot is also extremely intricate and tight, and the characters not only amuse, but also grow and learn. For those who care about the wetlands, a hefty amount of information on the Everglades is given, providing not just a feel for the location, but also transmitting a love of that land.

It's no surprise that this fun book was a bestseller in hardback, and now it has been brought out in paperback just in time for another summer of fun. Pack it along with your sunscreen and towel when you go to the beach - you won't regret it, but you may be reading so avidly that you never get to swim!
