When Carmela Bertrand's husband Shamus Meechum walked out on his marriage to her, Carmela found herself a new place to live in New Orleans and opened her own scrapbooking store, Memory Mine. Here Carmela has met lots of new friends while helping and selling them merchandise for their scrapbooking projects. As a sideline, she also helps the police solve some of the murders that take place in the French Quarter. Carmela is a natural at finding murderers, even if she does end up getting into some dangerous and tight spots along the way.

During Wren West and Jamie Redmond's pre-wedding party at a fancy restaurant, Jamie is unceremoniously stabbed with a butcher knife. Later, Carmela is the one to find the dead body in a back room.

Wren, who is naturally very upset, asks Carmela to help not only find the killer, but also to uncover more information about Jamie's past. He was an orphan and never spoke about his biological parents or family. Carmela, though busy running her store, attending crafts fair, and donating her time to make scrapbooks of redecorated rooms of two very rich families for a charity, agrees to help Wren too.

There are other people in the French Quarter who are also interested in Jamie's recent demise, or rather, interested in some of the things that Jamie owned. Dunbar DesLauriers is doing everything he can to buy the contents of Jamie's book store, and this includes threatening Wren! Baline Taylor, who was Jamie's partner in creating computer software, is suspiciously present when a poisonous snake is found in the house that Wren and Jamie shared. And Margot Butler, Jamie's old girlfriend and fiancé, doesn't seem the least bit upset that her ex-fiancé was murdered.

Yes, Carmela has quite a few suspects but who the murderer? Is it one of the people she knows or can it be someone else from Jamie's unknown past?

BOUND FOR MURDER by Laura Childs is an amusing and well written cozy that takes the readers into New Orleans's famous French Quarter. The characters are very likable and fun to read about. Even though I was able to figure out who the murderer was early on the story, the book was still extremely enjoyable even if only to pick up a few scrapbooking tips and to read about all the tasty-sounding dishes. Ms Childs includes the recipes at the end of the book.

I'm so glad that I discovered Laura Childs! I've found another cozy author whose books I will continue to read. Pick up a copy of BOUND FOR MURDER for a nice quiet day's entertainment. You'll enjoy it.
