Jacob Winter is a struggling writer. He has one nonfiction book under his belt and his life seems perfect. Perfect that is until he walks in on his wife having dinner with her boss in rather intimate setting. He goes crazy and wakes up in jail.

His wife, Laura, wants a divorce and Jacob must try to rebuild his life. His first step is to see Alix Callahan. They went to college together but he has not seen her since; however, for some reason she bailed him out of jail. Upon seeing her, he meets July, who is Alix's lover. July is a beautiful South American Indian with a strange past involving death, drugs and a husband. Jacob is attracted to July's exotic beauty and finds himself drawn into a web of deception and danger. If Jacob is not quick on his feet, he will lose both his family and his life.

For those readers scared off by how busy the back cover of this book reads, rest assure that it is not that complicated. Unfortunately it still has numerous plot elements that are not completely developed or truly necessary to the plot. For example, this book takes a very brief look at a specific South American Native culture; yet, not much information is provided about the culture.

While the information presented is accurate, it is not truly necessary to the plot. Yes, July was married to a shaman; however, that does not explain how she became the person that she did. While it does explain the shaman's behavior, it does nothing in regards to explaining the weird plot twists that occurred through out the book. In some ways, the inclusion of this culture seemed more like a way of making the book exotic rather than being a vital plot element.

GREEN GIRLS is Michael Kimball's third book.
