Maggie Sinclair is teaching a university class in England. This is a special overseas class and has three students: Rose, Anna and Sean. Rose and Sean are both college age students while Anna is an elderly woman simply enjoying intellectual challenges. While visiting an old Abbey, Rose stumbles upon a dead body. This murder forces Maggie to become involved in a supernatural showdown.

It turns out that Thomas Becket was not murdered. He is still alive and is trying to protect sacred objects from Lucifer's power. He appeals to Maggie and Rose to help triumph over Robin Fitzroy who is in fact Robert the Devil, another figure from English history. Robin wants to find the three sacred relics and bring about the Apocalypse. Yes, it is the eve of the new millennium and the world is about to end. Maggie, Rose and Thomas have their work cut out for them as Robin does his best to tear them apart.

LUCIFER'S CROWN uses a lot of Christian imagery and symbolism, as well as Christian saints and pagan ideals. At the heart of this book is the idea of ultimate good, Christianity, vs. the ultimate evil, Lucifer. In many ways this is merely another mortality play for the modern ages. Reading this book can be uncomfortable if one is not interested in Christian ideology. While Lillian Stewart Carl does not prophesize, the idea of Christianity being vital to the world's survival is definitely included in the book. In addition, the relationship between Maggie and Thomas provides another interpretation of the relationship between Mary Magdalene and Christ.

LUCIFER'S CROWN does provide a look at English history and its historical figures. In addition, it does provide an accurate understanding of how Christianity took the images and ideas of pagan relationships for its own use. This part of the book was very informative and interesting. LUCIFER'S CROWN is Lillian Stewart Carl's 11th book.
