Even when Dr. Mark Sloan and his son, Steve, vacation in Hawaii, Mark is still on duty. He is always helping someone who is in trouble. A man attacked by a shark is the same man that Mark treated earlier for medical problems. Sloan's genius sleuthing determines that the death is more than it appears on the surface. This man has been murdered. An investigation reveals that the victim is not who he appears to be.

Time is of the essence. Mark must find some other potential victims quickly. Every time he turns a corner, the murderer is already there. Even though you know who the killer is early in the book, it does not ruin the story line. The joy of this book is to watch the sleuths plan how to catch the person. It is this action, the subtle humor and the interaction between the characters that bring this book full circle. The TV series (Diagnosis Murder) helps in visually enjoying the story and seeing the wheels turn. When I picture Mark Sloan, I do see the actor, Dick Van Dyke.

The gentle jabbing between father and son, the rub between some FBI agents and Sloan and a sense of competition between the killer and the doctor all aid in a satisfying read. The bad guy plans to strike again disguised under the excuse of justice. Will Mark Sloan be able to stop him?

Enjoyable for the audience who have enjoyed past Lee Goldberg books and also for readers who have liked Jessica Fletcher books.
