It's not as if Colorado psychologist Alan Gregory doesn't have enough on his plate already with a wife who has multiple sclerosis, a daughter to look after and a full practice. But then Gibbs Storey, a beautiful former patient re-enters his life with a story that throws Alan for a loss. Gibbs believes her husband, Sterling, has murdered one of his ex-girlfriends. More than that, she tells Alan she's sure Sterling has killed others and she's intent of telling the authorities about one of the murders, but not all of them.

There are complications. In addition to being beautiful, Gibbs is rich and used to luxury. She doesn't like the idea of going to a cloistered safe house in case Sterling proves to be unhappy about her going to the authorities. Alan's friend and police detective Sam Purdy, recovering from a heart attack while facing the facts of a troubled marriage, finds himself drawn to Gibbs and soon gets behind the wheel to investigate the reported death of Sterling by drowning in Georgia. Unfortunately, no body was ever recovered and Sam has doubts that Sterling's waterlogged corpse is downstream from where he went into the river.

With Alan manning the home front, and beset with his own problems, such as his patients' personal information being leaked to others, Sam -- facing continuing symptoms of heart attacks and brooding over what appears to be a failing marriage -- heads back north to investigate the death of another woman who was apparently a victim of Sterling's charms, and to try to prevent another murder.

In this effort, author White uses shifting first-person viewpoints, with some third-person accounts thrown in to detail the last moments of two victim's lives. The principle story tellers are Alan and Sam. It's an effective technique and one which would let the author keep the series fresh simply by switching Alan's storytelling partner.

This reviewer could nitpick about the ending and one other point, but to provide details would reveal too much about the outcome of the novel. Still, it's an enjoyable addition to the long-running series, full of suspense and interesting characters. It's safe to say fans of this series will give BLINDED a thumbs-up.
