Agent Pendergast is back and gathering friends from some of his previous adventures such as RELIC This time he is back in New York City and once again using the Museum of Natural History to do some of his research.

A construction and demolition crew unearths an ancient basement as they tear down an old building in order to make room for a new high-rise apartment building.

Inside a crypt is found and the bodies of thirty-six people are unearthed. All the bodies are over 100 years old. However they have been murdered and mutilated in a horrible fashion.     Pendergast rushes forward to investigate but before he accomplishes very much the builder for the high rise uses his political pull and has everything moved and the bodies are given a quick burial.

To Agent Pendergast dismay however there are new victims showing up murdered and mutilated in the exact same way. Could the murderer have survived to be well over a hundred years old or is a copycat killer on the lose?

I am a devoted fan of Lincoln and Child and love the way they carry characters from previous works. It is like visiting old friends and seeing them work together again to solve an emerging puzzle.
