Rachel Goodman's preschool helps children who have been exposed to violence. She continues to struggle for funding and reaches out to children in dire need. It is an effort to keep her school open. Her handyman, Nick, is valuable to her cause although he does battle with his past. They each know the term, violence, firsthand. The violence aspect does not go away from either of them.

When a murder occurs, the police question Nick and some of his sordid past is revealed. Nick may have to dip back briefly into this world of crime in order to accomplish something. Nick's surrogate father makes a request and after Rachel is threatened, choices become easier. On the run from the bad guys, Nick tries to protect both Rachel and a young child. In doing this, he is clearly in harms way. Put on your seat belts!

This story is filled with adventure and is clearly tagged as romantic suspense. The chemistry between the two main characters is well drawn but not overdone. I can see this as a potential made for TV movie. A sentence included in the story sums up the tension felt in a particular scene, "it lasted forever, but was over in seconds." A satisfying read.
