The Adams Round Table was founded in the 1980s by Mary Higgins Clark and the late Thomas Chastain. A group of mystery writers who meet once a month for dinner and discussion of "the grisly craft," the Round Table has produced a number of "themed" anthologies, collections of member short stories written around topics such as "Missing in Manhattan" and "Murder Among Friends."

In Murder on the Run, the Round Table authors look at criminals in the run, sometimes using characters from established series and sometimes using characters unique to the story. Some series favorites appearing in this anthology include Lawrence Block's hit man Keller in the touching "Keller's Choice" and Mary Higgins Clark's Alvirah and Willy in the entertaining "Lady Sleuth, Lady Sleuth, Run Away Home."

The non-series characters are no less compelling. Sam Champion in Stanley Cohen's "Homeless, Hungry, Please Help" and David Crowley in Dorothy Salisbury Davis's "The Scream" are but two of the one-time characters who are brought to life and fully-developed in just a few short pages, a tribute to these authors' amazing skills.

The stories in Murder on the Run run the gamut from light-hearted to dark, with not a clunker in the bunch. Among the standouts are Joyce Harrington's "Eunice and Wally," a chilling tale of a battered wife; Judith Kelman's "Morphing the Millennium," about a singularly unlucky toy inventor; and Warren Murphy's "Another Day, Another Dollar,' whose protagonist proves repeatedly that she doesn't give up, no matter how great the challenge.

Murder on the Run, like previous collections from the Adams Round Table, is entertaining and memorable. Short story lovers won't want to miss this one!
