Bed of Lies is a romance written by Teresa Hill, an experienced writer with several novels under her belt. This is a well crafted novel that should satisfy the reader.

Julie Morrison is about to dine with her fiance, Steve Land, and his parents, when she runs into Zach McRae. Zach had helped her, time and again, when she was a child living in an abusive family. Now she has left that family behind and created a new life for herself, and she doesn't want reminders of her old life, nor does she want Steve and his family to know what her childhood was really like. She has told them many little lies to explain her life. Zach doesn't betray her, but Steve is jealous anyway.

Zach is in town to try a case. He is a lawyer who specializes in trying to keep troubled teens from getting the death penalty. Losing the case, plus recent problems from his own abusive childhood, bring him a great deal of emotional pain. Julie comes to comfort him, and they spend the night together. They at first try to pretend it doesn't mean anything, but it turns both their lives upside down, including ending both of their engagements.

Julie goes back to their mutual hometown to help her thirteen-year-old brother. Zach comes back after being forced to take a vacation from his job. Can they make a life together? Can they beat the consequences of their abusive childhoods?

Hill does a good job of creating characters, including the emotional turmoil that their pain creates. She also creates some healthy family members to interact with in Zach's adoptive family. Bed of Lies is a solid book. Recommended.
