Kenny sits on death row in the state of Florida. His grandmother believes he is not guilty and persuades Attorney Gail Conner to investigate. The more she learns, the more Gail believes in his innocence. Anthony is Gail's fiance and he is not happy that she is pursuing this. He, also an attorney, knows about the involved commitment and the gut wrenching energy it takes.

The circumstance behind Kenny's incarceration is the murder of a young woman.

The act was horrific, brutally done. There were so many stab wounds that the authorities lost count of the number. During the investigation, Gail learns that a sheriff's employee threatened a witness. This witness was so frightened that she refused to give Kenny the alibi he needed. Just when circumstances start to turn around, a death warrant time was signed and set for Kenny. After convincing her client that they would vehemently fight for him to stay alive, Gail has so much to do in so little time. For the first time in eleven years, Kenny has some hope. You will be quickly turning pages to learn where this is going. Be prepared for some quick turns.

This story contains a well-drawn out plot where characters are realistic. There is a strong feeling as the reader meets each character. All of them evoke an emotion since the author has prepared them so carefully. This story can be gritty and has a main character that is so human. She is a mixture of an attorney that has a passion for this assignment and also a woman who is trying to balance this passion with a daughter and a fiance.

Secondary characters in this story that stand out for me are Jackie and Kenny's grandmother, Ruby. Gail's cousin, Jackie, is a policewoman who comes to Gail's aid more than once. Jackie is also finding clues in the death of her mother, answering questions so that she can move along with her own life. Ruby is extremely inspirational; she knows that the odds do not look good for her grandson. She is such a quietly powerful character even though her aged body is slowing.

Recommended.
