Jimmy Taggert has lived a long and interesting life. He served three tours in Viet Nam, turning down rank and earning several medals and honors. He came back home to small town Darien, and served as first a deputy and then the sheriff for thirty plus years. He is all set to retire and enjoy the next few years traveling around the country-visiting children and grandchildren with his lovely wife Anne. But all that is about to change.

A terrorist, known as Michael Baker strolls into the bank where Jimmyıs wife works and changes the lives of many people in this small town. When the shooting is over Jimmyıs wife Anne lay dying, a town worker is killed and a young boy is crippled for life. Jimmy swears to hunt down Michael Baker and his gang and extract revenge.

Enter FBI agent Mitchell Corey. He arrives in town as part of a newly formed group designed to hunt down domestic terrorists. Seems that Michael Baker is a near genius that has stolen a large amount of explosives and is using his bank robberies to fund more. Both Sheriff Jimmy and FBI agent Corey wonder what the killer is up to.

It soon becomes apparent what Michael Baker is up to when he takes the president of the United States and the Prime Minister of Canada, along with many, many civiliansı hostage on the bridge crossing over Niagara Falls. If anyone can save them it would have to be Jimmy and Agent Corey and for both it has become a very personal score to settle.

This is a very fast paced book but be warned that the reading gets gruesome at times. It is very graphic and spares not a single emotion. Even with all the graphic scenes though there are touching scenes also that tug at the heart strings and makes you care about the characters and what will become of their lives.
