Leslie Glass gives NYPD Detective April Woo a small respite in order to bring this new standalone novel about sweet revenge. If your are interested in reading a gritty police procedural, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a humorous story about a scorned wife wanting to get even, then look no further.

Over His Dead Body is the story about Cassandra Sales and the personal transformation she goes through after realizing her life was a lie. Cassie has not had a happy moment in her life for as long as she can remember. Her marriage has been flying in automatic pilot for close to two decades and she is having a mid-life crisis. In order to be spontaneous, she gets a face-lift unaware of the possible consequences. After the operation, her face looks like it went one-on-one with Rocky Balboa causing a lot of comic misunderstandings throughout the novel. When her husband arrives home early from a business trip, he sees her, faints, and goes into a deep coma. This drastic reaction will cause Cassie to reevaluate her life and see what a fool she has been for the last few years. Mitch was up to no good and he was planning on leaving his wife and family leaving them with millions of dollars in debt. Mitch is unable to speak for himself and his former actions will be what will define him.

The novel is a classic comedy of errors with a lot of confusion and misunderstandings. Cassie, at first, refuses to believe what has been happening to her and just wishes it would go away. As the book progresses she learns from her mistakes and makes herself over. She is also by her husband side, waiting for him to recover from his coma before she gets a chance to give him a piece of her mind and perhaps something else. She will face off against the mistress and assist a tax collector by the name of Charles ñ call me Charlie ñ Schwab in learning the truth of her husband's indiscretions as well as some laugh out loud moments.

This book is recommended to fans of Olivia Goldsmith and Susan Isaacs who write strong novels with female protagonist getting even. April Woo fans might not recognize this novel as one of Leslie Glass but they should give this book a shot. There are times that the story might get silly but the one thing that this latest novel does is keep you in attention. It is not boring and it is loads of fun. A change of the regular routine is always good.
