Ellen McKenzie, newly divorced, returns to her hometown of Santa Louisa and moves back into the house she grew up in, while her parents try out retirement living in Scottsdale. Same house, but a different town than the one she left over 20 years ago. Santa Louisa is no longer the small town Ellen grew up in, but its growth is a good thing for her new career selling real estate.

Unfortunately, some developments may not be a good thing for the town. A huge discount store wants to build and the town is hotly divided. But are emotions so high that someone kill one of the store's strongest supporters? For it's his battered body that Ellen finds when she arrives to show a house to her first clients

Dying for a Change is a delightful beginning to what one hopes will be a new series. Protagonist Ellen McKenzie is as real as your next-door neighbor, neither superwoman nor insecure neurotic. Delaney's depiction of the way communities change and the impact on residents will resonate for anyone who has learned the hard way that no one can really go home again. All of the characters are well-drawn and three-dimensional and the relationships and interactions are completely believable.

Kathleen Delaney has written a book that will delight all cozy fans. Dying for a Change has everything a cozy reader could want, right down to the requisite cat!
