Jessie Drake is a Los Angeles Police Department Homicide Detective created from the mind of Rochelle Krich. In a previous novel, Jessie learns that her mother has hidden their Jewish heritage. Coming to terms, Jessie tries to learn everything she can about her religion and herself. This is why this particular case will be important to her.

Nathan Pomerantz's body is found one morning at a Los Angeles golf course. At first it seems that this man died from natural causes but Drake is not willing to surrender the case just yet. She learns that Mr. Pomerantz is a survivor from a Nazi concentration camp where his friends and family were killed. He had traveled recently from New York to Los Angeles ever since he received some good news. He is going to Los Angeles to face it. Unfortunately, he dies before anyone can learn his reason for being in California.

During the course of the investigation, Jessie learns of a fifty-year-old conspiracy that is still happening today. People are starting to get killed and Drake is going to do whatever she can uncover the truth. By the end of the case, Jessie will learn more about herself and the impact the Nazis had in World War II.

Blood Money is an entertaining read where one unfamiliar with this series character can easily step in. The novel is pretty standard where all loose ends are tied up and the guilty are punished. Jessie Drake is an interesting character going through a life change. It is hard to judge her after having read only one book but it will be good to keep it up.
