When LA newspaper columnist Neil Gulliver and his ex-wife, 'Sex Queen of The Soaps', Stevie Marriner are given a suite of rare Warhol silkscreen prints by sentimental 'retired' gangster Aaron Lodger, they are intrigued to find out the history behind the pictures. Their quest leads them into a search that spans the oceans and the decades. In addition, it brings them into contact with a range of characters who are also interested in the prints - and some of them aren't very pleasant. The sophisticated and refined art world is revealed as having a darker, more sinister side. The Warhol Hot Paint becomes a Hot Potato.

This is an exciting and involved thriller with so much going on it takes your breath away. There are twists and turns galore and you have to keep your wits about you if you don't want to be left floundering. Hot Paint is, in swift succession, funny, touching, tense, thrilling, educational, witty and sad. It changes from Hollywood glamour to Boys Own adventure at the drop of a designer hat. Mr Levinson obviously knows, and loves, his stuff as far as both Hollywood and the art world are concerned. Philistine that I am, I don't know my art from my elbow and a lot of the arty aspects went over my head, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the book.

Neil Gulliver and Stevie Marriner are Nick and Nora Charles for the 21st century. I really enjoyed finding out about them and their relationship. They're easy to like and fun to spend time with. Some of the supporting characters are excellent too - particularly sleazy film director Tony B Tony. This is the fourth book in the series, although it was my first. It definitely won't be my last.
