This is a wonderful, well-handled, cautionary tale for the time. A big Chicago corporation has plans to build a nuclear waste storage facility on a ranch in the Wind River Reservation. Jobs, mega-bucks, prosperity, loom on the horizon for the Arapaho nation. So why do some of the tribal elders and an Arapaho attorney first hesitate and then oppose the plan? Some on the reservation insist the attorney, Vicky Holden, has gone over to the white world. Others wonder about her relationship with the Jesuit father who runs the St. Francis mission on the reservation. And then, murder comes to call.

Once again author Margaret Coel has dipped into the history of an Indian nation, married it to very modern concerns and created a story that will enthrall and move the reader. The very real temptations, and tribulations of well sculpted characters, as well as the external pressures that cause any of us to stumble and sometimes fall, are carefully played out against a tapestry of global concerns. I recommend this book and I recommend this series.
