Golden Days Fair has come to the Hatteras West Inn grounds. Included in this fair are artisans with wonderful crafts: ironworks made by blacksmiths, hand woven shawls and wood crafted rocking chairs. I want to be there; it sounds delightful. As good as it sounds, the fair was dampened and contaminated due to the surprise of a corpse. One of the craftsmen was dead. Sheriff Armstrong decided to close the festival because of the murder, but Alex sensibly suggested that keeping all of the suspects near by would be to their advantage. It wasn't long before the Sheriff decided that one of the suspects had means and motive but was this the right answer? Alex didn't think so.

Elise, Alex's assistant (and maybe something more), is called home to West Virginia because her father suffered a heart attack. There was an immediate sense of loss even if she is engaged to someone else. Alex realizes how much he likes having her around; he also notices that some of his friends and neighbors think Elise is not coming back. This disturbs him and he hopes that it does not become a fact. Just when he is trying to sort through his feelings, ex-girlfriend, Sandra, enters the picture. He really does want to be "just friends," but she appears frequently.

Elise is not the only person that has left, another person disappears and she is fighting for her life. The authorities think this is a self-inflicted injury, but Alex questions and sees too many clues for this to be an attempted suicide. He knows he will need to get more involved to help solve the riddles.

A revisit to the Inn was a good experience for me. I like the characters and await a change in the relationship between Elise and Alex. I will be looking forward to reading the third in this series when it is published next year. The first Tim Myers book in this series is INNKEEPING WITH MURDER.
