Emily Graham, a lawyer, buys an old house in Spring Lake, New Jersey. It's the house where her ancestor disappeared years before and her body was never found. Now, however, young people have again started to disappear in Spring Lake and Graham finds herself thrown into the case. Can she solve the mystery or is she destined to become one of the killer's victims?

The work of Mary Higgins Clark has always been an easy read with nothing too taxing going on. Once again, this is the case here. Although there are numerous murders, we never get a sense of any real tension or pace. Instead, the book moves along slowly as we wait for the identity of the murderer to be revealed.

Higgins Clark does succeed in creating numerous possibilities regarding the identity of the murderer, as nearly all of the male characters involved are given some sort of motive. The actual identity will come as a surprise for some, but most experienced mystery readers will have worked out what is going on before they reach the end of the book.

Mary Higgins Clark is an experienced novelist but with 'On The Street Where You Live' she has not succeeded in producing anything overly special. This is average fare, which will appeal to fans of cozies but if you are looking for anything dark or complicated, you are not going to find it here.

Editor's Note: This is a review of the British edfition.
