Ever since she was a young girl, Maggie Kean's brother wanted her to be a baseball star. She went along with this dream until she found one of her very own. Maggie decided that she wanted to be a sculptor and plans to work at this dream until it comes true. Now, as a grown-up, her dream has come true. It is the day of her first opening and Maggie is beyond nervous. Finally, her moment in the spotlight has arrived and not being one to bask in the limelight, Maggie tries to just blend into the crowd. However, that it is not to be when Maggie finds a body stashed in a kiln. Maggie's night comes to an abrupt halt, as does any feeling of safety. The victim, Jeff Riley, worked in the I.R.S. on a high capacity level and had many opportunities to make enemies. Maggie is going to find out who killed this guy and who wrecked her big night.

An Opening for Murder is highly original and an absolute riot. Maggie is so sarcastic that most of the stuff that comes out of her mouth is side-splittingly funny. I also enjoyed the situations that Maggie managed to get herself in and out of. The mystery in this book held up well and under close inspection never misled the reader. This book makes a wonderful second edition to the Maggie Kean series.
