Tempe Crabtree, resident deputy of Bear Creek, a small community in southern Sierra, is excited about the weekend vacation that she and her husband, Pastor Hutch Hutchinson, are about to have. They plan to go to the Tapper Lodge and spend two days together thinking of nothing else but each other.

On their way to the lodge, Tempe has a bad feeling. Dark clouds are gathering and she senses some kind of doom on the way. Tempe is also part Yanduchi Indian and is just getting familiar with her cultural ties and beliefs with the Indian community.

When the couple arrives at Tapper Lodge, owners Luke and Becky Tapper greet them. They are also greeted by Aaron Lumb who has been the handyman for the lodge since Luke¼s grandfather owned it.

Tempe and Hutch are told that some Hollywood people will be guests as well. The couple doesn¼t mind though, because they will be together and won¼t have to join the others. Plus, it has just begun to snow, which will make the weekend even more romantic.

As the couple snuggles up on a couch by the fireplace, Mallory Benoit, Hollywood movie writer, Oscar winner, and resident of Bear Creek enters the lodge. Mallory and her ex husband, Virgil had lived as a couple in the small community with their sons for quite some time, but their divorce had been a very messy one. Mallory has custody of the boys and was awarded the home that they lived in. Virgil was not happy about any of this.

A few minutes after Mallory¼s arrival, Vigil storms through the doors demanding to talk to her about their sons. Mallory tells him to come back the next day since she has business to take care of at the lodge. Virgil then leaves, but says that he will return later on in the evening.

With that, Mallory¼s Hollywood friends arrive ‚ en masse. There¼s Mallory¼s current boyfriend and movie producer, Rick; her ex-boyfriend and movie director, Emil; there¼s Lucinda, an older movie star and her driver/escort, Philip; and then there¼s Coby, an actor who now does television commercials and is also a resident of Bear Creek. Coby was not invited.

They are all gathered because Mallory has just written a new screenplay and is thinking of having each of her guests (except for Philip, the limo driver) contribute their talents to the production of the move. Coby, who had heard about the screenplay, came to the lodge because he wants a part in the production. Each of Mallory¼s guests do not like each other and Mallory is angry with Coby for barging in.

Suddenly, Mallory¼s ex husband storms back into the lodge demanding to speak with Mallory. An argument erupts and Virgil threatens to kill his ex-wife. Virgil trys to leave but discovers that the lodge is snowed in, the roads are impassable, and he can¼t get home, thus forcing him to stay at the lodge too.

Soon everyone starts to argue with each other as the electricity goes off because of the storm. The guests no longer have lights, telephones, or hot water, but their hosts, the Tappers, tell them that they are used to this during the winter and that the guests will still be comfortable.

That night, Tempe is awakened by loud voices in the hall. It¼s Mallory arguing with someone, but Tempe can¼t recognize the voice. When things quiet down, Tempe falls back asleep only to wake up very early in the morning to be told the news that Mallory is missing.

Hutch and Tempe, and the handyman¼s dog, Bear, find Mallory dead in the woods, not too far from the lodge. Mallory has been murdered with a snow shovel ‚ but by whom?

The roads are closed and no one can get to, or away from the lodge. The electricity and telephone are still out and so it is up to Tempe, as deputy, to figure out who murdered Mallory Benoit.

INTERVENTION is a classic who dunnit. All the suspects are in one place with nowhere to run or hide.

We follow Tempe as she interviews all the suspects and tries to figure out who the murderer is before something else happens. Until she can reach the Police department and the detectives, she has to rely on her Indian culture and the faith and prayers of her husband to get her through this.

INTERVENTION is a cute book and even though I guessed who the murderer was way before the author told us, I still enjoyed it.

Author Marilyn Meredith gives us a great location for the murder, great stormy weather conditions, and a great cast of suspects. This is definitely a good book to read during a weekend.
