On a rare night out, Lt. Eve Dallas and billionaire businessman Roarke are attending the opening night performance of "Witness for the Prosecution" at Roarke's newly refurbished New Globe Theatre in New York, when the leading man is murdered on stage during the denouement. Dallas leads the inquiry into the death of Richard Draco, who turns out to be a thorough cad. A second death, that of the lead stagehand, follows. It is up to Eve to find out which of the theatrical troupe, whether actors or backstage personnel is the perpetrator.

This is the 10th book in Nora Roberts', (writing as J.D. Robb), ... in Death series. In each book, the relationships among the regulars grow. Dallas has picked up another rookie assistant who worships her. Peabody is dating McNab and Charles, and Eve doesn't want to imagine either of those relationships. Feeney gets to play bad cop to Dallas' good cop in the old routine, and Eve ponders if her life would have been different if she had known her mother. The most amazing thing about this series is that I think they are all still in print. They make wonderful airplane reading.
