Henrietta O'Dwyer, called Henrie O, is a 70ish retired and widowed retired reporter. Her daughter has asked her to accompany her grandchildren to their father's wedding to a spoiled rich southern belle, in Bermuda. Henrie O, recovering from pneumonia, agrees. Connor Bailey, the wealthy widow and bride-to-be is a beautiful brainless flirt, sort of like Marilyn Monroe in THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH. Men follow her and she loves the attention. Lloyd Drake, the bridgegroom to be, is a stolid, humorless, but well-intentioned man, who cannot understand his fiancees prediliction for flirting.

Lloyd has a sentimental side, and he insists that the wedding be held at the hotel in Bermuda where they had met the year before. On that previous visit, the husband of the owner had died, apparently from falling out of a tower on the property while drunk. His "ghost" is seen at night during the festivities leading up to the nuptials, and Connor wants to go home. Lloyd wants the planned celebrations to continue and the wedding to take place as designed, but all Connor wants to do is leave Bermuda.

Henrie O, despite her dislike of the bride, and her protective feelings for her grandson, knows that there is no ghost and searches for the person behind the apparently supernatural occurrences that bother Connor, and the person who murdered George, the waiter, who was killed before he could impart his information to Henrie O.

I've listened to some of the earlier books in this series on tape, and they are much better in that format. The little inconsistencies don't loom as large in audio format as they do on the page. However, it is refreshing to have a sleuth older than I for a change. Hart shows that age doesn't always bring senility, although if Henrie O is to continue being as active as she is now, she really should eat more regularly.
