Nikki Chase, Harvard Economics Professor, borrows her landlady's car and races to New Haven to be with her mentor, Yale professor, Gary Fox, after he phones her and tells her of the murder of his blonde, WASP, far right wing, media hound wife, who has been found in a black part of town stabbed to death and with her left hand cut off.

Of course, Gary becomes a suspect, and Nikki arranges to stay in New Haven to play detective, especially after a black student, Marcellus Tyler, Yale football star (!!!!) is charged for the murder. Nikki gets caught up in local and university politics while trying to find the truth. Again, Thomas-Graham has created some intriguing characters in an interesting setting. The contrast between Harvard and Yale, between Cambridge and New Haven, is carefully delineated. This was the second in a projected Ivy League series, but seems to be the last. It's too bad because the author made some very important comments on the state of race relations and higher education in the two books that were published,
