Richard Plenty, television ratings consultant, has come to Albuquerque at the request of news director Ray Abbott to advise the management on reorganization with an eye to raising the ratings of KOVR. Ray had sent assignment editor, Casey Brandt to bring Richard to the station, but when she arrives in the posh suite, she finds Plenty dead in the shower. The police are there within seconds, and she is a suspect

Ray has been trying to get rid of Casey because she refuses to obey his ridiculous orders, and he tries to take advantage of her finding the dead body by telling the police that she did it. Casey hs been at the station longer than Abbott, and is well respected among the photographers and reporters, while Abbott is thought to be incompetent besides having a very strong personality problem.

Casey tries to figure out who would murder the consultant. Of course, she is a suspect, but who else would go so far as to murder Plenty. One of the station photographers is killed in what appears to be an auto accident before she can solve the puzzle, and then she is strangled and would have been killed except for her dog. Finally, all the pieces come together, and the culprit is uncovered.

Rose drew on her years working in television newsrooms for this book and her expertise shows. The cover of the book is also excellent and the cover artist is actually credited on the back cover, which is unusual.
