This story begins with a death early in the book, then backtracking to five days prior. Why was the victim murdered? When you tell "little white lies," does it make a difference? Do small fibs count? This was a well written mystery with a Christian theme.

Thirty-six year old Pippa Hunnechurch, British born, resides in Maryland. She is an independent headhunter. As companies begin to downsize staff, Pippa is in danger of loosing her business, a business that she had started only 18 months ago. Several people inform her that they do not need her services anymore. Pippa, not one to cave in, decides to attend a local Chamber of Commerce meeting and find some new clients. She volunteers to lead a committee after a glowing endorsement from another successful recruiter, Marsha Morgan. This is a strange endorsement because Marsha has never heard of Pippa before. Soon after that meeting, Marsha and Pippa team up on a large recruiting assignment and life is starting to look content. This happiness quickly turns to confusion when a murder occurs; Pippa needs to save her business and her reputation, as well as her life.

Strong dimensioned characters surface in this mystery. My favorite is Gloria. We first know her as an efficient secretary, but she is so much more. She befriends Pippa; we see her develop into a sharp shooting, wise cracking Christian who becomes a protector. Gloria has great potential for her own story.

I liked the fresh flavor of this story. It presents a different look into the corporate structure and we, as the readers, benefit in observing a piece of the recruiting world. The authors are husband and wife, with a background in consulting work for many corporations. I hope that they write more books.
