Money plays a role in politics, most commonly in the form of campaign contributions. It's all too often about those seeking influence with the White House. For billionaire businessman Julian Mellow, however, it's not enough to influence a president; he wants to own the man. In this case, it's Harry Lightstone, a Republican Senator from Pennsylvania, whom Mellow sets up and catches in a honey trap.

Lightstone is far from a sure thing when it comes to his electability for the nation's highest office, but Mellow is willing to go to any lengths (including murder) to see that his chosen candidate is elected. Strangely enough, Mellow's interests with the presidency lie not with a pro-business agenda, but rather with foreign policy toward a very specific African nation. In short, it's a revenge plot for the murder of his only son.

Can anyone stop Mellow or his sinister plot? Only one man, Zach Springer, a former employee who was done wrong by Mellow, is seeking to stop him. Springer will pay a heavy price for going after Mellow, as it places him, his girlfriend, and others in danger.

Seth Margolis takes influence-peddling to a whole new level in PRESIDENTS' DAY. While the plot begins a little too predictably, where he takes the story is undoubtedly more satisfying. The cat-and-mouse game between Mellow and Springer keeps tensions high and the action unpredictable. Whether the reader finds the book's conclusion satisfying likely corresponds with his or her view of politics generally.
