China Bayles is finally getting married. With just days left until the wedding, the town's real estate developer (and all around nasty guy) manages to threaten her plans by, annoyingly enough, getting himself murdered. Now, there is no love lost between the town and Mr. Coleman ("Good riddance," being the resounding reaction to his death) but it just so happens that China's fiance is the acting police chief and may not be able to leave for their (non-refundable) honeymoon trip. Naturally, this means that China and her group of eccentric but delightful friends must come to the rescue by solving this murder before the honeymoon is ruined. Susan Wittig Albert continues to bring to life the ex-lawyer turned herb shop owner in her eighth China Bayles mystery. No need to worry if you haven't already added China to your list of literary friends -- this book will stand on its own and serve only to make you rush out to the nearest bookstore to buy up all of its seven predicessor. In addition to the delightful characters and interesting herbal information which fills each of the China Bayles mysteries, you will be happy to know that China is quite a sleuth as well. She takes on mysteries, along with the various other pressures of her everyday life, and through persistence (and her nosey nature), China sorts through red herrings and gossip to find the truth. Lavender Lies has everything a cozy mystery lover could ask for.
